Buying a GPU from Another EU Country — Everything You Need to Know

Cross-border GPU buying can save you 150–400€ on the same card. Here's what you need to know before you order.

Your warranty is protected by EU law

Under EU Directive 2019/771, every EU retailer must provide a minimum 2-year legal guarantee on all products. This applies regardless of which EU country the store is based in or where you live. If your GPU develops a fault within 2 years, the retailer is legally obligated to repair, replace, or refund it.

Some countries go further:

  • Spain: 3-year legal guarantee by default.
  • Sweden: 3-year right to complain (reklamationsrätt) for defects.
  • Finland & Netherlands: No hard cap — liability is based on the expected lifespan of the product. For a 1,500€ GPU, Finnish consumer law has successfully supported claims up to 3–4 years after purchase.

The 2026 Repair Bonus

From July 31, 2026, the EU Right to Repair Directive (2024/1799) takes effect. If your GPU breaks within the 2-year guarantee period and you choose repair over replacement, your guarantee is automatically extended by one additional year — effectively making it a 3-year guarantee.

CountryLegal Guarantee
Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium2 years
Spain3 years
Sweden3 years
Finland2 years minimum, lifespan-based in practice
All EU (from July 2026)2 years + 1 year if repaired

Shipping costs

Most EU retailers ship internationally within Europe for 5–30€. GPUs typically cost 10–20€ to ship. This is almost always worth it when the price gap between stores is 100€+.

Store shipping coverage:

  • Alternate.deShips to most EU countries
  • LDLC.comShips to most EU countries
  • Azerty.nlShips to NL and BE
  • Megekko.nlShips to NL and BE
  • Coolblue.deShips to DE and NL only

What if the store doesn't ship to your country?

Some retailers only ship within their home country or a limited set of countries. If a store has the best price but won't deliver to you, parcel forwarding services solve this.

How it works: you register for a local address in Germany or the Netherlands, the retailer ships there, and the forwarding service ships it on to you. You pay a forwarding fee on top of the original shipping — typically 15–40€ for a GPU-sized package.

Popular services:

  • Mailbox.deGerman addressships worldwide
  • MyGermany.deGerman addressships worldwide
  • Package.nlDutch addressships worldwide

Factor in the forwarding fee when comparing prices. If the price gap is 100€+, it's usually still worth it. If the gap is 30–50€, probably not.

VAT is already included

All prices on PriceSquirrel include VAT. There are no hidden import taxes when buying between EU countries — VAT is handled by the retailer at point of sale. You won't be charged anything extra at delivery.

14-day right of withdrawal

EU law gives you a 14-day no-questions-asked return right on all online purchases. You typically cover return shipping costs — around 10–30€ for a GPU. Contact the retailer directly — most major EU stores have English-speaking support.

If you used a parcel forwarding service, returns are more complicated. You'd need to ship back to the forwarding address, then they forward it to the retailer. Factor this in before using a forwarder for a purchase you're not sure about.

Payment methods

A standard Visa or Mastercard works at every tracked store. Most also accept PayPal. Some support local methods like iDEAL (NL) or Sofort (DE) — these aren't necessary, any major card works fine.

Warranty by country — quick reference

If a retailer refuses a valid warranty claim from another EU country, that is illegal under EU law. You can escalate to your national consumer protection authority or use the EU's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.

Frequently asked questions

Will my GPU arrive with a foreign language manual?

Yes, but GPU manuals are minimal. The card works identically regardless of where it was purchased.

What if the retailer's website is in another language?

Most major EU retailers have English-speaking customer support. Chrome's built-in translation handles DE, FR, and NL pages well for browsing.

Are power connectors compatible across EU countries?

GPUs connect via PCIe slot inside your PC — there are no regional differences. Power connectors are universal.

Can I buy from a UK store?

No — post-Brexit, UK retailers are outside the EU single market. Buying from the UK may incur import duties and VAT complications. Stick to EU-based retailers.

What if the retailer refuses my warranty claim?

This is illegal under EU law. Escalate to your national consumer protection authority or use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.

Is parcel forwarding legal?

Yes — there are no restrictions on using a forwarding address within the EU. Some retailers have terms against it but enforcement is rare and it is not illegal.
